Monday 20th - Members meeting. 1:30 PM at the Vasco Da Gama Hall (Fenner hall), 15 Fenner Ave, Newport RI. The speaker is Jim Ludes PHD, Salve University, VP Strategic Initiatives, and Executive Director of the Pell Center for International Relations. His presentation is on a Short History of Disinformation, Political Warfare, and Influence Campaigns from the Cold War to Today.
The use of information in conflict is as old as human existence, but today—when entire economies are built around the movement, sorting, and sale of information—the ability for states, corporations, and even some individuals to shape public attitudes, is unprecedented and underappreciated. This talk explores the history of modern disinformation targeting the American public—from the rise of mass media, through the ideological conflicts of the 20th century, to the era of social media and precision guided munitions of the mind.

is about protecting our environment for future generations as an important issue today.
The talk will focus on comparing global and local uses of our main energy sources, wind, solar and fuel, focusing on their abilities to provide safe, cost-effective energy for us while simultaneously minimizing environmental damage. With the current discussions of solar vs wind and land use in our area, many listeners will find this topic very enlightening.

The speaker is Dave and Marilyn Ferkinhoff, who's presentation "The state of small things in the smallest state." will focus on making miniatures and doll houses. This will include exhibits showing unique things you wouldn't think about when talking about miniatures.

Featuring Kite Flying for Seniors - no running required. Returning by request, veteran master kite flyers of international kite festivals will share the history of kite flying and the health benefits for seniors. They will tell you how to easily build or sew a kite that can fly.
